Jamaica Wedding- May 2, 2008

When Lance and I got engaged in Hawaii he mentioned he wanted to get married on a beach somewhere. As we were beginning to plan the wedding, we found it a bit hard to plan a destination wedding without knowing a lot about the location and vendors. Then I looked into the Sandals resorts. They say all you need is love, and that really is pretty much all! We sent our birth certificates in beforehand and I talked to the wedding coordinator on the phone for about 7 minutes to plan the time and location. That was it!

We asked a lot of people and about 15 different Sandals Reps which location was the best and where would be best for a wedding. We heard the same answer over and over. Sandals Negril in Jamaica. We didn't know anything about the resorts, so we booked it and hoped for the best. We later saw that Hollie's sister from The Girls Next Door was getting married at the same resort! We had to Tivo the episode and watch it to see what our wedding and the resort was going to be like :P

The only requirements to get married in Jamaica are that you have to be on the Island for 2 days prior to the wedding. After 2 days you're a resident, Mon!

The day of the wedding we spent the morning together, then I left Lance with Rick and Mike as I went to the spa to get ready for the ceremony. When I was there it started pouring rain. It was still a couple hours before the wedding was scheduled to begin, but cute Lance found the Wedding Coordinator and was quite nervous about all the rain. All she said is "rain on your wedding day is good luck, it will be fine!" It's a good thing I was in the spa because I don't think the thought of rain on my beach wedding would have been okay with me! Turns out, she has lived in Jamaica a lot longer than we have and she knows how the storms pass. When I came out it was sunny with blue skies.

We chose the actual beach for the ceremony and it was absolutely perfect. Rick and Mike were the only ones who could be there to celebrate with us, but it just made everything so intimate for Lance and I. This was our day, we were celebrating each other and our love and nothing else. The Minister did a wonderful job and we wrote our own vows. Uh yeah, I was almost in tears just walking down the isle so saying my vows was nearly impossible! (Good thing I get another try in Utah ;)) I was crying and Lance was very close and it was just such a sweet moment.

After the ceremony we had to sign the HUGE marriage license, we took some pictures, then went off to our reception. We chose to have the Island cake flavor (hey, when in Jamaica!) for the wedding cake and it was definitely an experience. We sat in the garden gazebo and enjoyed our reception for awhile. Then we walked around the gorgeous resort with the photographer and took pictures.

That night they arranged a special wedding dinner for us. We got to choose the menu and were eating on the beach. The food was excellent and our dessert came out on the waiters head and with our names on it. So cute! The best part was the waitress and waiter singing a song for us though!

After dinner we went to the private hot tubs just outside the spa. We were all by ourselves and just enjoyed the beautiful Island!

When we got back to our room they had towel swans at the bottom of the bed with my bouquet inside and a note to the newlyweds. There was also a menu for the breakfast in bed they would be bringing the next day and a "honeymoon in progress" door sign :)

The entire thing was absolutely perfect. I could not have asked for a better day, location, wedding or husband!
